Karen and Huy [San Luis Obispo Engagement Photography]

I met with Huy and Karen this weekend to shoot engagement photos. We went to the Morro Rock, surrounding beach and Black Hill in Morro Bay, CA.

July 21st - Songwriter's Circle at the Boardroom in Pismo [Music Photography]

This show included three of my very best friends/favorite musicians Patrick Drom, Tara Henderson and Evan Melgares. I've been trying to drag Patrick out of the house and into the spotlight at the Clubhouse for months. Instead he made his debut in his own way...with an awesome show packed with friends.

Tara Henderson drove up from Riverside to open up the show for a packed house and it was amazing. She opened with some originals and covers. She sounded like an angel, as always. Then invited Patrick up for a duet, transitioning into his set. Of course she sang my favorite song, I'm Going, which I prefer to call Mississippi...because if anyone would travel all the way to Mississippi (worst state ever) to make someone miss them then that is love!

Anyone who knows Patrick knows "So Hard" is one of his many signature lines. Tara almost brought the house down when she said "I love you so hard!" at the end of their debut. It was shamazin! As was most of Patrick set. He started out with all my acoustic favorites. Many a night out has ended with Patrick singing my to sleep in his recliner, so I know his songs by heart. He even dedicated my favie to me.

Finally, Evan Melgares when up third. Although I've known Evan for about a year now this was my first chance to hear him play.

July 16th - Joe Koenig with Leon Russell at Downtown Brew [Music Photography]

Joe Koenig invited me out to shoot him opening for Leon Russell. This was my first opportunity to see Joe play with his bandmate Pheobe. I gotta say it really makes a huge difference. I've really been into classic instruments lately.

I took one of my favorite photos ever of Pheobe because with her hair all puffed out she looks like Bob Dylan from the back.

Back to the show, Joe was great. He played in front of a pretty large crowd. The show was all reserved seating so I had some good opportunities to shoot from the back and get the whole scene.

I wasn't really there to shoot Leon Russell but I snuck in a couple from way way off stage...what the heck! One of my favorite parts of the show was right after he played his last song of the set he said: This is the part where we all walk off stage, then you clap until we come back out for another song. Some of us our too old for that so we're just going to stay here and play another song. (Probably not in those exact words). It was quite funny!

Kathy & Matt [Santa Cruz Wedding Photography]

I also met Kathy and Matt at the Santa Cruz Bridal Fair and they booked me on that day. They are such a sweet couple. Kathy is an adorable soft spoken girl and Matt is fun and a little loud (according to the best man toast)...they totally balance each other. Their wedding was set up to be at the Pajaro Dunes beach but the gale force winds changed their plans. Instead they set up the ceremony on the deck of the reception hall. It was still a very beautiful setting. The large fluffy clouds and blue sky were a perfect background. After we found a somewhat sheltered area behind the building for portraits. Then we ventured down to the beach to see just how windy it was...VERY! Kathy's veil actually got pulled out and blown down the beach. I know they were initially disappointed that they didn't get to have the wedding on the beach but very happy with the final outcome...especially the amazing sunset.

Katie & Ravi [Monterey Wedding Photography]

Over the years I've found I have a much strong connection with the couples when we do any engagement sessions. That is why I've decided to include an engagement session with all of my weddings. Katie and Ravi were practically pros by the time we got to the wedding day portraits. We had a fun engagement session at the Santa Cruz boardwalk and beach before the ceremony giving us a great chance to get to know each other and practice. I learned a lot about them, they met in the military, they love to travel, but most of all the love to eat. Ravi said they love to cook because they love to eat, they love to travel and eat new foods, and they love to work out so they can eat more. So I knew the food at this wedding was going to be awesome LOL! (and Grapes of Wrath did not disappoint.) The ceremony was at the Carmel River State Beach. After wrapping up portraits at the beach, we hopped over to Pacific Grove for a few portraits. The reception was at the Elk's Lodge in Monterey. This was the first time I've actually gotten to shoot a Saber Ceremony and watching Ravi cut the cake with a sword was hilarious!

One of my favorite original things about this wedding was the couple refused to kiss when people banged on their glass with a fork. Instead they made their friends and family stand up in front of the whole reception and sing a song with the word love in it if they wanted to see them kiss. It was super funny and way less annoying for the couple.

Fourth of July Camping [Travel Photography]

This July 4th I went camping with some friends at the Utica Reservoir near Angels Camp. As I thought, I'm not much for camping...especially in primitive sites. I did spend some time shooting and got a few of good images from the trip.

Embodiment Human Canvas: Bacardi Torched Cherry

Native Lounge hosted another Embodiment event sponsored by Bacardi. They hired me to shoot the event this time. I started downstairs with the artist, then did some posed shots of the models before shooting the art show. Embodiment is an art show were artist paint on models who show the art live.
