Photography School [Dallas Art Photography]

I finally had the opportunity to pull a few images from my photography classes in Dallas back in 2001 and 2002. This are all black and white film images scanned from the negative, so forgive the quality. I guess my love for contrast started pretty early. There are a mix of abstract images with natural light and studio images with controlled lighting.

Abstract Photography: Stairs with shadow

Abstract Photography: This was actually a tucked away corner
of a church down the street from my house.

Abstract Photography: I drove past this image everyday
for a few weeks before I jumped out with my camera and grabbed it.

Abstract Photography: This image and the next image are part of a diptic.

Abstract Photography: This image goes next to the one above creating a pattern.
They are shot from underneath a metal staircase.

Fashion Photography: This was one of my first attempts at studio lighting.

Studio Lighting: We had to create a studio on a shoestring
budget. This was shot in my kitchen using a posterboard backdrop and
hot lights. I didn't do a great job with the reflections but hey that's
my hand so I was shooting one handed. No fish were harmed.

Human Abstract: An experiment with multiple exposures in studio.

Human Abstract: I noticed this awesome light in my living room
one morning so I set up my tripod and jumped in front of
the camera for a quick self portrait. This turned out to be
one of my favorite shots from my entire school portfolio.

Figure Study: This was from my very first semester.

Art Photography: My boyfriend at the time worked in
a building that housed old movie sets. This was discovered
while exploring late one night. Shhhh! We weren't supposed to be there.

Art Photography: I took this image on one of my last days in
Dallas. There was a polling place down the street from my house
and the sight of all these political signs was insane.
There were even more signs than you can see.

Fourth of July Camping [Travel Photography]

This July 4th I went camping with some friends at the Utica Reservoir near Angels Camp. As I thought, I'm not much for camping...especially in primitive sites. I did spend some time shooting and got a few of good images from the trip.

Montana De Oro [Travel Photography]

Montana De Oro is one of my favorite local get away spots. I recently drove out there for the day and visited Sand Spit Beach and Hazards Canyon with my camera. It was a beautiful clear day, uncommon for this area.

Road Trip to AR through CA, NM and AZ [Travel Photography]

My brother got married and my sister is having another baby so it was the perfect time for another cross-country road trip. Anyone who knows me know I love driving home...being home is another story. It's all about AZ and NM for me. I love the desert, it is so beautiful. This year I ended up getting sidetrack in Mojave, CA and having to take a huge detour through the high desert on the way out to AR. It was a major pain in the butt but it did take me to Littlerock...CA that is. After that I kinda made a bee-line for home because it was set back several hours. Most of these photos are from on the way back to CA. I took a couple of adventure side-trip down 2 lane highways in NM where my wonderful dog decided to eat cow poop. That made for an awesome smelling drive. I also stopped at a old Route 66 ghost town called Two Guns, AZ. It is built on top of an even older ghost town called Diablo Canyon, known for being one of the wildest and most dangerous towns in the old west. AND Diable Canyon is built on top of an Indian settlement...talk about some high demand real estate. After that adventure and almost getting blown into the canyon by crazy wind, I headed the Grand Canyon. As you may recall on my last road trip the Grand Canyon was completely invisible due to snow and I almost got stuck several times driving through the park. This time it was fantastic! Well see for yourself.

Travel Photography: Still in CA barely outside of San Luis Obispo. Somehow
I always find crosses along the drive home.

Travel Photography: Just a cow gate in CA

Travel Photography: This made my whole detour worth it. Litterock, CA is just
as crappy as Little Rock, AR.

Travel Photography: On the way back I stopped at a small gas station with the
best view of the continental divide.

Travel Photography: A small property in NM on the highway going
towards Window Rock.

Travel Photography: Trespassing on private property.
This is where Kashmir decided to chow on cow poop.
I was so irritated that we got back in the car and didn't
make it out to Window Rock. Next time...

Travel Photography: I spent a couple of hours at this
abandoned Route 66 stop and ghost town.
